Early Edition vs. New Edition

Russell's book is indispensable for any serious musician/composer. I own both the first edition and the last edition and they are VERY different in terms of presentation.
The first edition is clear and easily accessible, especially once you realize that you can gain alot by starting at the end of the book (intervallic issues) and finishing at the front (scales).
The second edition is extrememly arcane and lacks alot of the material included in the first edition (I think). I say that because the last edition is SO arcane in so many ways, it's actually difficult to tell.
But... the material is essential and brilliant, so... dig in. It is more than worth the effort. I've been working with it exclusively since 1976 and I refer to it all the time.
