Great resource for any drummer entering the studio.

I recently purchased Mark Parsons "Drummer's Studio Survival Guide" and I was impressed. I am a drummer and have recorded in various recording studios on multiple occasions. I will certainly be more capable of getting a better sound out of my drums after reading this book.
I have encountered, just as Mr. Parson has, the horror of leaving my drums' sound in the hands of someone who is not a drummer. Thanks to his discussions on everything from room acoustics to microphone selection to processors (such as compressors, noise gates, equalizers, etc.) I can better explain what I am looking for in my drum sound to the engineer.
At the end of most of the chapters is an "Ask A Pro" section were Mr. Parsons asks well-known drummers, including Kenny Aronoff and Rod Morgenstein, and professional studio engineers what their personal preferences are on drum head selection, microphone selection, what equipment they like and don't like to use to process drum tracks.
In conclusion, this is a wonderfully informative book. I would recommend it to any drummer that has recorded or will be recording in a studio. It gives us a leg-up on communicating with engineers and helping our drums to sound great on and off the recording.

Kickstarter to Amazon great book!

I was one of the Kickstarter backers that got this project funded. I thought the concept for the book was a wonderful idea and would have ordered multiple copies through Kickstarter, but the project was charging shipping per book and it was quite expensive. I knew that successful Kickstarters usually end up on Amazon and so I waited patiently for the day to come for an Amazon launch of the project, as I enjoy free prime shipping. The Amazon copy arrived and it is the same great quality as the Kickstarted copy. My only complaint is that it is so beautiful it would have been nicer to have been hardcover.

This book is golden.

This book was a Kickstarter project that I supported. All I saw was a few sketches then and they looked interesting. That's how I got my copy--I saw a few sketches and decided to support the project. Then the book arrived at my house. WOW! The book is amazing!! Each drawing is my favorite until I turn the page and see the next one. The detailed drawings are fascinating to look at and study. This book is so wonderful I just have to share it with a couple of my friends so, I have now bought two more to give to friends as Christmas gifts. Get your own copy---you'll be happy you did!

I found out about Rafael's art when I began following him on Instagram. Once I heard about the availability of the coloring book on Amazon, I had to get my hands on it! Each piece in the book is beautifully printed, and each page is perforated for those who would like to frame the finished pieces. I however, will be one of those who can't decide what color schemes to use so I photocopy a bunch to try out... Overall a big fan of this beautiful and sophisticated coloring book.

Disappointing

This book was a bit of a disappointment, particularly as I had enjoyed the author's Cicero. Full of abrupt transitions and oddly-placed digressions, Augustus reads like a rough draft in need of a good editor. My guess it that this book was rushed to print after the unexpected success of Cicero, but Everitt won't win any new fans with this effort.

Pretty good book

Lillian too combines a little bit of western numerology in the beginning of the book with chinese flying star feng shui - which of course is not, imo, always accurate as western numerology numbers do not correspond exactly to the flying star number interpretations. For example, the 4 in feng shui means the romance star, while in numerology it means foundation and work.
In the middle she delves a little more into flying star feng shui - but still does not go into enough depth for the serious practitioner. Still, there are some things in the book that are emphasized that I have not seen in other books and there are maybe 10-15 pages of information that I have not seen in other books.
Toward the end of the book she presents what I think to be chinese loshu numerology (I remember reading about it once a long time ago in one book). I'm not too sure how accurate this is as I've seen other types of numerology that are more accurate (and as a teenager I did read a lot of books on numerology). Still, it is interesting. One western type of numerology that I've seen uses the letters in a person's name instead of their birthdate. Forgot the title of that book though.
Overall I think this book is recommended. But I wouldn't use this as your main feng shui book guide but instead use it as a supplement. From my personal experience, you don't need metal pagoda's or specific chinese symbols to counter a bad flying star. Just the color and enough of that color in a sector (or that element) is enough to counter something. Suspect that this trend in feng shui was meant to make people buy stuff from vendors or feng shui practitioners and could have also served as a subconscious method of making the person believe in something to make it true.
If you're looking for 2 books that I have found to be somewhat accurate in feng shui, then get "Idiot's guide to feng shui 2nd edition", and "A Master's Course in Feng Shui" by Eva Wong. The Idiot's guide book is by far the most accurate book I've seen.. and I've read about 20 feng shui books or so..

Lillian Too...always excellent material...

This is the first book on numbers that I truly enjoyed. Not to say Linda Goodman
and other authors on the subjects are not good. She does cover familiar terrain.
Lillian Too covers many feng shui flying "star" numbers not previously known to
Western minds. It is an excellent book like all the rest of Madame Too's books.
I found it enlightening in regards to the study of feng shui. Feng Shui does in
great depth and breadth--it is very surprising. Who knew feng shui could be so
profound ? If you like the study of space energy and numbers then give this book
a try.

There is a lot of information packed into this book. It is well organized. It doesn't have the charm of Lillian's earlier books. It could be that someone else did the composition and text.

comprehensive great information HISTORY of sexuality in America.. NOT a sex guide book!

this is a text book so people's whiny reviews that "it reads like a text book" are ridiculous, it is a text book, you're either able to handle intellectual reading or you're not. it's not a "sex" book. It's a history of sexuality within north american history.. from colonial on through the 1970's 80's.
The book discusses the shifting values and mores and how sexuality was considered a societal issue .. for Puritans sexuality was about procreation and all within the realms of marriage .. neighbors and people spied on one another, tattled on each other and then saw punishment done for breaking laws. This was a way to keep the community tightly knit and on track.. sexuality changed as prostitution and our country changed due to wars or events.. this book talks about the history of sex it's not about positions or titillating stories..
